![]() ![]() Very few of the foundations in the range now have these strong undertones, it’s mostly the old school formulas like Face and Body, or Studio Fix Powder.” ![]() ![]() These have a stronger yellow or pink undertone than their NC/NW counterparts. So an NC27 is not as yellow as an NC25 but it is a little bit darker.Ĭonversely there are also plain C’s and plain N’s. These odd numbers have more of a neutral undertone. These colours don’t have quite as strong an undertone as those that end in 5 or 0. For example there is an NC27 or an NW18 in Studio Fix Fluid. “…there are some odd numbers peppered along the way in some of the foundations. Just because am an NC 45.5 doesn’t mean my skin tone is the equivalent of an NW 45 – these are two different tones on their own.Īccording to Sharon a MUA from , You also need to know that the shades in the NW range are not equivalent to the shades in the NC range. The golden tone of your skin acts as a filter over your veins making them appear green. If the veins underneath your skin, around the wrist area especially, tend to appear green, you’re probably warm tonned and that’s why the MAC NC’s are suitable for you because they are warm in color as well. The MAC NC foundation caters for golden beige undertones. On the other hand the MAC NC’s are usually for people with lighter skin tones. Shillat the makeup artist likes to think of NW as “not warm” which means it’s suitable for cool undertones and NC as “not cool” so its best for warm undertones. If the veins underneath your skin especially on your wrist tend to appear bluish, you have cool toned skin which is usually able to handle more intense color that’s why the MAC NW foundations are darker and suitable for you. ![]() The MAC NW shades are usually great for people with darker skin. The MAC NW shades cater for red, pink and blue undertones in other words, cool tones. You’ll find MAC foundations labelled as N (neutral), C (cool), NW (Neutral Warm) and NC (Neutral Cool). The first thing you need to know is that the MAC color system is divided into neutral, cool, neutral warm and neutral cool. However in MAC cosmetics, the undertones are labelled opposite to their names. When it comes to color theory, cool undertones are distinguished as red, pink and blue, the warm undertones are described as gold, yellow and peach. In this part, which I think is the final part, we’re just going to understand how to choose your MAC foundations basing on the NC and NW terminologies. It was basically an overview of what the MAC foundations are like and I hope by now you know what MAC foundation, you’d prefer! In the last part I basically talked about all the MAC cosmetics foundations, their coverage levels, finishes and which skin types they suit best. I was about to buy a sheer cover foundation in N43 (AS ADVISED BY MAC) to wear on top, as I have a wedding tomorrow to go to, but when I went to another store because I couldnt get the shade I was after, I was then advised to always go for the studio fix makeup, because its supposed to work together, but then I was told my another MAC Rep on the same counter, that if I use a studio fix powder, then I am adding more colour to my already added foundation and I will end up looking like I have to much on.Welcome back to Part 2 in the series “Understanding MAC Foundations”. I am not sure if this is the wrong match, I get told different information each time I go to a MAC counter. I was quite surprised how much darker the concealer is, I always thought you should go for a lighter concealer, but when I use a light concealer, my pigmenatation looks grey, because this concealer is dark and I apply only to the pigmentation areas, i find myself having to put more of the foundation on top to even my face out, otherwise I look very patchy. I decided to try MAC Foundation, I was given NC45 CONCEALER pro longwear and NC42 studi fix foundation I an asian and have olive skin, my pigmentation is quite dark. I have hyperpigmentation on my foreheads and cheeks. ![]()
